Last Names????

So, everyone knows that Luke's last name is allegedly hyphenated and I kept my last name. Why is that so hard for other people to figure out? My whole life I have had a different last name than everyone I lived with except my brother. I never thought it would be a big deal when I was married. Of course we are constantly getting stupid responses like, "Oh, so your not married" or "how is it possible that you have a different last name". But now with the whole adoption thing it has started to get tricky.

So far we have had our checks filed under a made up name twice. We haven't even reached the big part of the adoption process.

We recently sent in our I-600A to the Oklahoma U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services. This is the form you send in to approve you for international adoption before you are assigned a child.

They sent us a receipt for our checks under names that don't even exist. So, I tried to call up there, but instead I ended up making an appointment to go up there and talk to an actual person.

We are not frustrated, I just think it is funny. Lots of people have hyphenated last names and more and more women keep their own name, people should be able to read left to right like every other last name. I normally don't care, and I really don't care if they know what my name actually is, I just want them to credit my checks to the appropriate account.

BTW...In other countries it is common to have two last names or to keep your name if you are a woman. Check out my immigration card from Costa Rica... Is that a spot for two last names? Si!

Too funny - I swear sometimes when we rent cars and ask for the other person to be added as a driver under the spouse provision, they're wondering if we're REALLY married when they see our licenses! We just made things more complicated for ourselves by hyphenating Matthew's name, so now we have 3 different last names in the family.

Hopefully, you'll be able to get the name thing straightened out now, because you will certainly have enough stressing you out in the coming months!
