Protecting my Garden

OKC is supposed to get a bunch of snow!  So, I'm really worried about my garden.  I have been trying to research how to best take care of it, but I can't find anything that applies to my scale. (hahaha)  I read that plastic is bad to use because the plants could freeze to the plastic covering.  My mother-in-law brought over some sheets that she doesn't use any more.  I wrapped my strawberries, apricot trees and blueberry plants in sheets and pillowcases and then wrapped that in plastic.  Other plants just got the plastic.  My front yard looks like a big trash bag.
I really hope this works, but it is doubtful if the whether does get as bad as they say it is going to get.  At least I tried to save them?  I'm the most concerned about our peach trees because they are way to big to protect.  The trees already have little peaches on them.  I have heard they in florida the orange tree orchards will water the fruit before a freeze is coming to protect their crop.   I am hoping this is true because it rained today, hopefully the rain will provide my little peaches with some protection.

I can't imagine how heartbreaking whether like this would be on someone who made their living off growing crops or had to grow their own food to survive.  When I was wrapping my yard in plastic I couldn't help but think of the book "The Worst Hard Time" about the great depression. It's a great book.  I cannot imagine how horrible it would have been to live through something like that.  Everything those people tried to plant failed due to some crazy rare outbreak of because of the drought.

Last year when my tomato crops didn't do that great the grouchy lady at Horn Seed said "it's a good thing we don't make a living growing tomatoes".  I am really glad that growing flowers and other yummy items is just a hobby for me and not my livelihood.

Wish my garden luck!
