Hallmark Special

Did any one else see the Hallmark special about Irena Sendler?  It was wonderful.

Sendler was a Polish woman who lived in Warsaw during WWII.  She was extremely brave and rescued 2,500 Jewish children from the ghettos by sneaking them out and then passing the children off as Poles, then giving them to Polish families to raise during the war.  She took records of all the children so that they could be returned to any family that survived the war.

She was eventually captured and tortured for three months, had both her legs and feet broken (I did latter research on her after the movie), then hiding our in this condition for several more months before having to basically hide out for the next 80 years in Communist Poland.

I always wonder when I hear stories of miraculous people if I would be capable of committing such selfless acts, putting myself and my family in very real danger, to help out others that I do not know?

I think that I would, but how does a person know that unless they are put in a horrible situation?  I hope I never have to find out.
